Postsecondary Planning

Counselors meet with students annually to review course selections and how they align with postsecondary goals.  Students use Xello for career interest inventories and college and career exploration. My Texas Future is a one-stop shop for students to explore career options and research Texas public colleges and universities. Students in grades 10-12 may also sign up with their counselor to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Career Exploration (ASVAB CEP) each year.

Students should begin the college application process during the summer between junior and senior year, and may apply directly to each college or use an application platform such as Apply Texas or Common App. If applying through Common App, they must link their Common App account to Xello following these instructions.  Research which colleges and applications accept Common App here. If applying through Apply Texas or some other method, they can request a transcript through the form linked here.

Submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) is a state graduation requirement. Brewer High School hosts several financial aid information sessions after FAFSA opens in the fall of each year. Parents and students are encouraged to consult with our College Advisor for assistance with financial aid applications (see checklist).

SAT testing dates and registration can be found here. ACT testing dates and registration can be found here. Fee waivers for registration fees are available for students who qualify, please have your child reach out to their counselor if you think they qualify.
