Transportation

WSISD provides bus transportation to students who live two or more miles from their home campus as required by the state. The two or more miles measured is the shortest distance on public roads between the campus and student residence.

After completing the Bus Rider Registration Form, the Transportation Department will make contact by phone or email to confirm bus stop and pick up times within 3 to 5 days.
Students will be required to ride the bus they’re assigned.

Bus Routes & Stop Times

Please be aware that the bus route times may change, so check back several days prior to school start. Students should arrive at their bus stop 10 minutes prior to the times listed to ensure that they catch the bus.

Brewer High

Bus routes and stops will be designated annually, and any subsequent changes will be posted on the website and shared with the school. For the safety of the operator of the vehicle and all passengers, students must board buses only at authorized stops, and drivers must unload passengers only at authorized stops.

A parent may also designate a child-care facility or grandparent’s residence as the regular pickup and drop-off location for his or her child. The designated facility or residence must be on an approved stop on an approved route.

This form must be submitted to inform the WSISD Transportation Department and your child's school of changes to your student's normal afternoon busing schedule. All changes must be submitted before 2 p.m. to take affect the same day.

This form will be unavailable from 2 to 4 p.m.

This would not apply to situations when students are attending after-school activities or when they are checked out early for doctor's appointments, etc. If the school would have a record of your student's whereabouts, it would not be necessary to submit a bus schedule change form.

Parents must submit a form for each day that a change to the student's bus schedule is requested.

Eligibility

Eligible students include:

All students who must cross Loop 820 to get to their home campus including all Brewer High School students and all students with special needs.
Tannahill Intermediate students who live past 9724 Stoney Bridge, 1000 Legacy Drive, 10600 White Settlement Road, or 332 Paint Pony Trail and all students who live east of 820.
Blue Haze students who live past 11500 White Settlement Road. (The Silver Ridge area)
North Elementary students who live in the outlying areas of Silver Creek Road and Verna Trail, and those who live east 820.
Fine Arts Academy students who live past 608 Saddle or 629 Las Vegas Trail, and those who live west of 820.
Brewer Middle School students who live past 800 Saddle or 600 Las Vegas Trail, and those who live west of 820.
West Early Learners Academy students who live 2 miles or less of the radius may be picked up from their home campus. Students who reside outside the 2-mile radius will picked up from their home.

Ineligible Students:

Liberty Elementary students (all addresses less than 2 miles from the school).
DAEP students.
Students attending under the open enrollment policy.

Discipline Procedures

GoldStar Transit is authorized by WSISD to handle any disciplinary issues which may occur while students are using this service.

On any problem that might arise, an attempt will be made to resolve it between the driver, and or the transportation personnel, and the student. If such an action fails, the student will be written up by the driver on a BUS SAFETY REPORT. The Report will be forwarded to the appropriate campus administrator for disciplinary action. The campus administrator, and or the director of transportation, has the authority to accelerate consequences for severe infractions up to and including suspension from bus service privileges.

Step 1: Campus Administrator Conference/Parent Contact

The campus administrator will enforce the bus safety rules. Transportation personnel or the campus administer will notify the parent/guardian of the violation, answer questions and enlist assistance. The campus administrator will issue a warning to the parent /guardian regarding the 5-day suspension consequence detailed in Step 2. School detention or In School Suspension can be applied at the discretion of the campus administrator.

Step 2: Five Day Bus Suspension The campus administrator will notify the parent/guardian of the 5-day bus suspension

The campus administrator will immediately notify transportation by fax or e-mail the following information: the start and end date of the suspension and the date the student will return to riding the bus.

Step 3: Ten Day Bus Suspension/Parent Conference

The campus administrator will notify the parent/guardian and transportation of the 10- day suspension. A parent conference is required to determine a behavior pan for the student to return to riding the bus. This conference usually takes place during the 10-day suspension, at home campus and will include the parent/guardian, campus administrator, transportation representative, driver and student.

Step 4: Suspension for the Year

The campus administrator will suspend and remove the student from the bus for the remainder of the school year and notify transportation and the parent/guardian the start date of the suspension.

The following severe and accelerated consequences are recommended:

Weapons or drugs.
Exiting the back emergency door unless directed by school personnel or in the event of an emergency.
Lighting matches, smoking, smoking paraphernalia, spraying of aerosol cans.
Student insubordination that results in the disruption of the bus service. This includes the removal of a student from the bus by campus or transportation personnel and the deliberate giving of false information by a student.
Fighting or the physical contact appearing to be an act of fighting.
Bullying in any form of another student or adult.
The deliberate crossing of a four–lane roadway or divided highway.

Student Expectations

Students should assist district staff in ensuring buses remain in good condition and transportation is provided safely. Bus riders are held to the dress and behavioral standards established in the WSISD Student Handbook.

Students must:

Be outside at their stop at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled time.
Wait for the driver’s signal upon entering or leaving the bus and before crossing in front of the vehicle. Stay out of the bus’ “Danger Zone” (anywhere within 10 feet of the bus). If you can touch the bus as you walk by, you are too close.
Stay in their seats and face front at all times.
Follow the driver’s directions at all times.
Not possess or use any form of tobacco including e-cigarettes on school buses.
Not bring aerosols, perfumes, lotions or sprays of any kind on the bus.
Not eat or drink on the bus, except for water.
Not deface or destroy the bus or its equipment. Students and parents will be held responsible for all charges related to repair caused by vandalism or destruction.
Keep the noise level down to a minimum.
Not put head, hands, arms, or legs out of the window, hold any object out of the window, or throw objects within or out of the bus.
Keep feet, books, backpacks, instrument cases, and other objects out of the aisle. If possible, items must be held in your lap.
Observe all usual classroom rules.
Always cross the street in front of the bus. Make eye contact with your driver before crossing in front of the bus and the street. Be alert to the traffic around you.
Not put head, hands, arms, or legs out of the window, hold any object out of the window, or throw objects within or out of the bus.
Never try to get anything left on the bus after exiting and NEVER reach for anything you drop that goes under the bus.
Not horse play on the bus or around the outside of the bus.
Properly wear the seat belt, if bus is equipped.
Not use their cell phones use (unless directed by a driver in an emergency situation).

Students will have an assigned seat to and from school. The bus driver has the right to change, if necessary.

Items not allowed on the bus include, but are not limited to:
Weapons of any type, knives or any sharp object, skateboards, scooters, balloons, glass, lighters, large band instruments, live animals, reptiles or insects (dead or alive). Pencils and pens should not be displayed. If it is not allowed at school, it is not allowed on the bus.
